Great trip. Should have had even more time at Explora. My favorite part of the trip was spending lots of time with the astronomer at Explora, plus the hikes. AWR is great. We had three great photo shoots outside Explora Patagonia.

7-Day Patagonia: Torres del Paine W Trek with EcoCamp, April 2019
Sunrise in Torres Del Paine. What an incredible place! And trip! We have loved it so much. We hiked to the base of the Towers yesterday and are so tired?. Gretchen, thank you for your help in creating our adventure. Also we have had stunning gorgeous weather with sunshine and little wind here in Chile.
We also loved our ranch and riding experience outside El Calafate. Very good food and nice people. Thank you.

We had a fantastic trip! The itinerary Gretchen arranged was excellent. Transfers were efficient. Our guides were very good.
Highlights were trek to base of the towers at Torres del Paine and the hike to Laguna de los Tres to view the Fitz Roy massif in Argentina.
In our opinion, it would be mistake not to visit the parks in both Chile and Argentina. We particularly liked the Ecocamp suites in Torres del Paine, the tango dinner in Buenos Aires and the visit to the penguin rookery. Hotels were uniformly good. The refugios/tents on the W trek in Torres del Paine were very basic but we considered it part of the experience! We will definitely use AWR for future trips.

We have been recent customers of AWR staying near Torres del Paine. This was arranged for us by Gretchen. We had the most excellent service from her. We have been traveling for 5 months using a number of companies…no one came even close to Gretchen in responsiveness, speediness, understanding and patience. Hang on to Gretchen!
The mountains, the hotel and the guides stood out. Working with Gretchen was great, the hotel people and guides were all excellent.

Thank you for a great itinerary. It was an awesome time. Collaboration and communication was great. My highlights were:
1. Huemel Loop was epic (thanks for the recommendation!). Incredible backpacking experience and folks speak of it in the same vein as the W circuit.
2. Osorno Volcano was quite a challenging experience. The weather conditions turned on us to prevent any summit but i was also exhausted. Great experience though with crampons.
3. Refugio Frey and Kayaking were comparable. Unique experiences.

I would highly recommend Gretchen and AWR to my friends and others for their travel needs. Hiking in Torres Del Paine was an amazing experience. Food in some restaurants in Punta Arenas were surprisingly good, and Hotel Ilaia in Punta Arenas was lovely. Having dolphins swimming next to our boat on our way to Isla Magdalena was such a treat. We all loved Patagonia and are looking forward to go back someday (we all ate Calafate cream pie, local lore has that you must eat calafate to guarantee the return to Patagonia). Thanks again.

I recommend AWR quite frequently. For me, Iguazu Falls was the highlight of the trip but everything was great Probably one of the most important pieces for me is the transfers. I have done several trips now and the transfer agent always arrives on time and they are always quality people with quality vehicles. It is a real stress reducer.

We had an incredible trip and have only positive things to say… We couldn’t believe how close we got to the whales – both in our kayaks and on shore. The sea lions were another highlight, we felt like we had a bunch of friends following us. The trekking was an added bonus, we didn’t realize there would be so much of it and that it would be so beautiful. We can’t say enough about Pablo and Sofia! He was so knowledgeable in history, marine life, the peninsula and provided so many interesting facts. He was also a pleasure to travel with and as a guide. His ability to whip up delicious meals with only 2 pans and a camp stove was incredible. He was also very proficient in packing 5 days worth of supplies in 4 kayaks – with room to spare. From the time that Sofia picked us up at the Trelew airport to the time that Pablo dropped us off …, we felt like we were in very good hands and that we were among friends. Pablo and Sofia truly made it a very special experience and a trip of a lifetime.
