Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrive San Jose

Visiting: San Jose, Costa Rica

Arrive at the San Jose Airport. Meet & greet at the airport and private transfer to your hotel. Overnight at the simple but comfortable and centrally-located Hotel Presidente or similar.

Day 2 : Pacuare River rafting

Visiting: Pacuare River

Early morning pick-up and overland transfer to the Turrialba area. Breakfast will be enjoyed en-route. Continue on to the Pacuare put-in and begin your rafting adventure! Enjoy white water rafting (Section I - Class II-III) until we reach the lodge (on the river). Overnight at Rios Tropicales Lodge in a Standard Room.

Rios Tropicales Lodge is located on the river and in the heart of the 1,500 acre Pacuare Reserve - a remote area which has become a unique eco-adventure playground. The lodge offers you all the comforts you need in "Cabecar Indian" style built by native indians. Spacious bungalows with comfortable beds and pillows - completely furnished with fresh linens- and private bathrooms that have hot water and electricity produced by a mini hydro-plant. Rios Tropicales Lodge was built as a sustainable eco-lodge - including the building materials, waste management system, recycling practices, and the clean, renewable energy that powers the entire facility. Your stay at Rios Tropicale Lodge includes a canopy tour with six platforms, jungle trails with creek crossings, waterfalls, natural slides, intimate pools, primary forest, and bird-watching. This lodge's unique natural setting will definitely invite you to relax and inspire you to explore.

Day 3 : Full day exploring the Pacuare River jungle and river

Visiting: Pacuare River

Today you will enjoy a Canopy zip-line tour and choose from a variety of great hikes - a 4-5 hour hike high into the Pacuare Reserve; a 2-3 hour hike to nearby waterfalls and pools; or shorter walks near the lodge. Overnight at Rios Tropicales Lodge in a Standard Room.

Day 4 : Finish rafting and head to Arenal Volcano

Visiting: Pacuare & Arenal

Continue rafting the Pacuare, today enjoying the premier whitewater experience in Costa Rica (Section II - Class III-IV). Reaching the take-out after your thrilling river trip, enjoy a prepared lunch (included). After something to eat, you are met by your driver and transferred overland to Arenal Volcano (approximately 2-3 hours drive). Balance of the evening is free at leisure. Overnight at Arenal's Lomas del Volcan or similar mid-range property.

Day 5 : Sky Trek zip line & afternoon at leisure

Visiting: Arenal Volcano

Today visit Arenal Reserve and do the SkyTram & Skytrek, arguably Costa Rica's best zipline experience. It's a thrilling experience and a "must-do" for any major outdoors enthusiast. Afternoon is free to enjoy as you wish. While relaxing by the hotel pool is always nice, optional guided hikes, nature walks, paddle boarding, kayaking, and the like are easy to arrange.

Day 6 : Morning at leisure with afternoon hike & hot springs

Visiting: Arenal Volcano

Morning at leisure. One option is an early morning canyoning tour through Pure Trek - an ideal experience for travelers seeking more adventure.

This afternoon you will be transferred to the west side of Arenal Volcano, where you’ll spend time exploring the Silencio Trail. Your expert bilingual naturalist guide will point-out wildlife and indigenous rainforest plants, informing you about their medicinal properties. Common sightings wildlife include monkeys, wild boars, two types of toucans, white-nosed coatis, Oropendulas, golden eyelash vipers, boa constrictors, and great curassows. Before dark, you’ll continue to the observation point, which offers a sweeping vista of the mountain. Relax, enjoy a drink and listen to the incredible sounds of the forest. Your guide will explain the history of this magnificent volcano as you listen to rainforest frogs, toucans, and insects and watch thousands of lightning bugs. End the day at Ecotermales Fortuna which consists of a series of hot-springs pools. There are five pools of thermal hot water between 37º and 42º C. (98º - 107ª Fº) plus one pool of cool water. The first pool has water that propitiates the natural massage and if you go behind it, the water steam turns it into a natural sauna. There is also a small waterfall and a natural Jacuzzi. This unique oasis is surrounded by lush gardens and forest. There are two bar areas, a restaurant, and dressing rooms with private lockers. You'll enjoy a hearty typical dinner and then be transferred back to your hotel. Overnight in Arenal.

Day 7 : Depart Costa Rica or extend to the beach

Visiting: Departure

After breakfast you are met by your driver for a private transfer back to San Jose with a direct drop off at the airport in time for your flight home. Please plan a flight departure no earlier than roughly around 2 pm, otherwise you would want to consider an overnight in San Jose tonight, with a departure anytime the next day.

Alternatively, extend your stay with a transfer to any of the wonderful Pacific beach areas, such as Manuel Antonio, Samara, or Tamarindo. We can arrange any extension - let us know if you are interested.
