Day 1 : Arrival

Visiting: Chamonix

Check-in to your hotel upon arrival in Chamonix.

Meet your guide and trekking group at the guide’s office in downtown Chamonix at 6pm for a pre-trip briefing.

Overnight at the Hotel de l’Arve (our recommendation) or similar in Chamonix. Other hotel options available.

Day 2 : Hike above Chamonix

Visiting: Chamonix - Heremence

You meet the group at 9 am at the Guide's office and then ride the Flégère tram above Chamonix to reach the mid alpine balcony trail.

The view over the Mont Blanc range is breathtaking! You hike past the Cheserys lakes (also a highlight along the Tour du Mont Blanc) and are able to admire the reflection of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. After the lakes the trail descends to the Montets pass, where a minivan drives you and the group to Heremence.

Day 3 : Hike from Heremence to Arolla

Visiting: Heremence – Arolla

A short hike leads to the Dix Lake. The trail follows the lakeside until the “Pas du Chat” bridge, and the start of a long uphill hike along the Cheilon moraine and glacier, leading to the Mont Blanc de Cheillon (3869 m) in the distance. From the top of Reidmatten pass (2919 m) - where hikers can see the very top of the Matterhorn - an amazing hike down begins, past the Tsijiorne Nouve glacier, the Mont Colon and finally down to the village of Arolla (2000 m).

Day 4 : Hike by Moiry to Zinal

Visiting: Arolla – Zinal

The minivan takes the group to the beginning of the hike. The climb up to Torrent Pass (2919 m) is pleasant and not too steep. The descent across alpine meadows down to Moiry lake (2249 m) is gorgeous. The Dent Blanche (4357 m) appears in the distance with lush alpine pastures in the foreground. To get to Zinal (1650 m), the trail heads over the Sorebois Pass (2835 m) with an unforgettable view over the surrounding 4000 m peaks.

Day 5 : Hike from Zinal to Gruben

Visiting: Zinal – Gruben

After a steep hike into a superb larch and spruce forest, the path quickly gains altitude to view points of the Dent Blanche and the Ober Gabelhorn. The very summit of the Matterhorn comes into view, along with the Bishorn and the Weisshorn.

Here you leave the French speaking part of the Wallis (Valais) region, and enter German speaking Switzerland.

The end of the day takes you to the summer mountain hamlet of Grüben (1822 m) in the Turtman valley (Turtmantal).

Day 6 : Hike to Saint Niklaus

Visiting: Gruben – Saint Niklaus

In the morning you hike up the Augsbordpass (2894 m). During the long descent to St Niklaus (1100 m) looking down to the Mattervispa valley, you can stop at the alpine village of Jungu (1955 m), and take a moment to admire the surrounding summits: the Weissmies (4023 m), the Mischabel range and with its many 4000 m peaks (Dom 4545 m, Täschhorn 4490 m etc.). From Jungu the trail heads down an ancient Way of the Cross to the small town of St Niklaus. The group transfers by taxi to Zermatt for the night.

Day 7 : Short hike near Zermatt, return to Chamonix

Visiting: Zermatt - Chamonix

Enjoy a last hike with your group near Zermatt, just below the Matterhorn. Transfer back to Chamonix.

Day 8 : Departure

Visiting: Chamonix

Check out of your hotel. Departure to Geneva airport or elsewhere (transfer not included).
