9-Day Winter Haute Route Ski Tour

Winter Haute Route Ski Tour -- Trip Photo of Europe trek  Europe map

Overview Itinerary Pricing

The Haute Route (or "High Level Route") is considered one of the most famous ski tours in the world and listed by National Geographic as one of the planet's top-ten distance trails. All while staying in the excellent system of mountain huts with half board and welcoming interiors, you'll complete this high-altitude, winter adventure.

Accompanied by an experienced French guide, you will experience a true winter adventure traversing a majestic landscape crowned by the greatest concentration of 4000-meter peaks in the Alps. The Haute Route ski tour joins two of the great mountaineering centers in the world - Chamonix and Zermatt - one overshadowed by the highest massif in Western Europe (with the Mont Blanc or "White Mountain" at 15,781 feet), and the other by the most iconic, and probably the most elegant, of Europe's alpine peaks (the Matterhorn at 14,692 feet). Along the way you can take in breathtaking views of rugged peaks and pristine glaciers.

This tour is a serious endeavor and a dream for experienced skiers. We'll place you on a tour with 6 1/2 days with a guide to ensure the best trip possible and a relaxed start. Note: the program is approximate and can be changed based upon weather conditions and the discretion of the guide.

Level/ difficulty: this trip if for experienced back country skiers, comfortable on slopes up to 35 or 40 degrees in all types of snow. Climbs are on similar slopes, so you need to be comfortable and experienced using AT skis and ski crampons. You also need to have mastered use of avalanche safety equipment (beacon, shovel, probe) and glacier travel equipment (harness, rope, crampons...). Excellent physical condition is required for daily climbs exceeding 3,000 vertical feet and 4 hours.
