Very quickly, AWR expanded its mission into making some of the world’s most amazing destinations and adventures available, affordable and achievable for curious travelers of all ages and backgrounds. Adventures Within Reach offers treks and cultural tours in East Africa, the Himalayas, Latin America, Antarctica, and The Alps.

Social Responsibility
From the very beginning, AWR incorporated into their corporate mission and their travel programs, a strong belief that cultural interaction and social responsibility add meaning and authenticity to the travel experience. AWR’s destinations are among the most remote in the world. While foreign tourism to these areas can provide education, jobs, and opportunities for local communities, they believe that both travelers and tour operators have an additional responsibility to address the often overwhelming needs in the countries where they visit and play.
AWR actively works with local porter groups in all destinations by arranging donations of mountain gear and clothing, promoting educations, and consulting on organization fundamentals.
Peru: The Land of Incas
Peru is the third largest country in South America with 27 million people scattered throughout one of the most challenging geographies on Earth. While Peru is home to the Amazon River, the globes deepest canyon, and the world’s highest navigable lake, it is the lost civilization of the Incas that has inspired millions to visit the spectacular Peruvian Highlands.
High in the Andes Mountains, the Incas found a way to thrive for over one hundred years in the unforgiving environment by cutting agricultural terraces into the steep hill-sides near massive cities in isolated valleys. Today, exploring the ruins of these cities and trekking the remnants of the ancient pathways that connected them are the highlights of an Inca trail experience that will lead adventurous visitors through the Andes to the famed citadel of Machu Picchu.
Looking for a more remote trek in the Andes? Then head north of Lima with Adventures Within Reach to trek the Cordillera Blanca. This is the most beautiful trek in the world’s highest tropical mountain range. The Cordillera Blanca trek passes below towering peaks with glacier-carved canyons, including Huascarán, Alpamayo, Taulliraju, Huandoy, Chacraraju, and many others, as it travels through Peru’s only National Park in the mountains.
Galapagos Cruises / ecuador
The Galapagos Archipelago is situated 800 kilometers (600 miles) west of the Ecuadorian coastline, and lies directly on the equator. The Archipelago consists of 125 islands of which 97% of the total land area is dedicated National Park, with only 3% open to visitors.
The volcanic Galapagos island platform was formed less than 15 million years ago and the oldest island is less than 2.4 million years old. Volcanic eruptions have occurred on the islands within the past 10 years on Isla Fernandina and in the Sierra Negra volcano on Isla Isabela.
Cruising the Galapagos Islands is a very special and unique experience. As guests hike the island trails they will admire blue footed boobies and giant tortoises in addition to other mysterious creatures like the armies of marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, equatorial penguins, and numerous other species that are endemic to this remote island paradise. The rich marine life is fascinating for those who enjoy snorkeling in a world as wonderful as the one above the water’s surface, rich with colorful schools of fish, manta rays, sea turtles, hammer head sharks, whale sharks and magnificent reefs.
Costa RicA
Tanzania: Safari and Kilimanjaro
Unquestionably, the spectacular snow capped volcano rising from the golden plains is one of Africa’s truly amazing sights and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s great experiences. Adventures Within Reach offers custom safaris and Mount Kilimanjaro climbs on all routes to the summit.
Located just three degrees south of the equator in Northeastern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and is the highest free-standing mountain in the world. This immense mountain is made up of three volcanoes: Shira, Mawenzi, and AWR’s goal, Kibo, the tallest one in the middle. Of the famous highest seven peaks in the world, this is the easiest to get to and the easiest to climb. It requires no technical climbing experience, and any moderately fit person can summit the mountain. A local guide is required to hike Kilimanjaro. Porters will also go on the trip to carry your luggage, food, and other equipment. Guests only have to carry a day pack with daily essentials.
But a trip to Africa is not complete without a visit to view the wildlife in the famous national parks. The must-see safari in Tanzania is the annual migration of millions of wildebeests, zebra and gazelle. The huge herds of animals are in the southern Serengeti in March when hundreds of thousands of calves are born. During the summer months, they start to move north into the western part of the Serengeti and arrive in Kenya by August and September. Starting in October, they head south again and the cycle of life continues.
AWR offers tours and packages to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire, as well as Mount Meru, Zanzibar, Arusha National Park, Pangani and the Usambara Mountains.
The Himalayas: The Roof of the World
There are few places on earth that inspire the imagination or invoke such magical images of cloistered communities filled with ancient rituals seemingly lost in time on the roof of the world as Bhutan, Nepal, and Tibet.
Bhutan
Bhutan or the “Land of the Peaceful Dragon” is a country of sprawling forests, venerated monasteries, overpowering fortresses, lush green valleys fed by bountiful rivers and age-old practices. Cultivated fields surrounded by pitched roof houses with their typical trefoil-shape windows and Dzongs (fortresses) dominate the scenery with their sheer size. Its people are hardworking, vibrantly attired and deeply religious while the land is immaculate. Bhutan’s alpine pastures, peaks, forests, lakes and flowers make it a paradise. Maybe that is why the rare black-necked crane makes its way across the Himalayas to Bhutan every year.
Nepal
Nepal boasts eight of the world’s tallest mountains and the world’s oldest Hindu and Buddhist sites. While Kathmandu Valley is made of three ancient cities filled with enchanting medieval palaces, pagodas, temples, statues and stupas, the rest of the kingdom offers unparalleled adventure options with abundance in flora and fauna. As for its people – From the Tharus that shares their land with the splendid Asian tuskers in the plains to the brave Yak herders of Dolpo, they are as amazing as the land itself. Here in its tropical jungles the Royal Bengal Tiger prowls, higher up the legend of the Yeti lives on. Although modernization has set in, the quintessence of ancient Nepal remains amongst its people.
Tibet
So magnetic is its fame that a mere mention conjures up images of grandeur and spirituality amidst a wild and uncompromising landscape. It has the earth’s highest ecosystem and is one of its last remaining wildernesses with its lush forests supporting abundant wildlife. Its many mountains feed some of Asia’s most revered rivers and Mt. Kailash is the most sacred mountain in the world. Its people are some of the most resilient in the world. Through their richness and deep religious convictions, were built many fascinating monument – Dalai Lama’s summer and winter retreats, the Potala and Norbulingkha are most prominent – it is one of the most fascinating places to visit in Asia.
