Rwanda and Uganda: Visas

The information above is for informational purposes only. All travelers should check to see if entry requirements and fees have changed.

Rwanda Visa

As of August 1, 2016, the entry visa fee is US$30 and is valid for 30 days.

Nationals of Australia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, Republic of South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States of America can get a visa at any entry point into Rwanda upon arrival. The entry visa can be paid upon arrival in USD, Euros, or GBP with cash (credit card may be available, but don't depend on it). The visa can also be obtained ahead of time and online. To enter Rwanda, a valid passport and a yellow fever certificate of immunization are also required.

Nationals of Singapore, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Singapore, and Democratic Republic of Congo do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. Nationals of Africa countries are either exempted from the visa fee, or the visa can be obtained upon arrival.

People from the countries not listed above can obtain visas at a Rwanda Embassy in their home country, or apply for your Rwanda visa online:

For your visa application, the local office address is

Magic Safaris
Boulevard de l'Umuganda
c/o Ninzi Hill Hotel - Kacyiru
P.O. Box 4152 Kigali, Rwanda
Tel: +250-252-58.84.44 (Office)

NOTE: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers over 1 year of age.

Uganda Visa

Ugandan visas are required for citizens of the European Union, the USA and Japan; other nationals should check. Visas can only be obtained online. As of July 22, 2016, a single entry visa to Uganda costs US$50 and is good for three months.

As of July 1, 2016, all visitors who require a Uganda visa must apply for the Uganda visa online: https://visas.immigration.go.ug

Be prepared to upload legible electronic copies of

  • Current passport
  • Passport photograph
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate
  • For an East Africa Tourist visa, a travel itinerary and proof of return ticket must also be submitted.

Step 1: Choose the type of visa: "Ordinary" (single entry) and East Africa Tourist Visa are the most common.

Step 2: Fill out the requested personal and travel information. A local office address is required in the form:

Magic Safaris
3 Parliament Avenue
P.O. Box 9805 Kampala, Uganda
Tel. : +256 414 342 926

Step 3: Upload clear copies of current passport, yellow fever certificate and a passport photo. For an East Africa Tourist visa, a travel itinerary and proof of return ticket must also be submitted.

Step 4: Upon completion of the online application, you will receive a barcoded email notification in approximately 3 days. You will need to print out the email and present it upon entry to Uganda.

Upon arrival at any border (entry point) you must present the barcoded email and the original yellow fever certificate. The immigration officer will scan the barcode, take your finger prints and photo, and ask for the $100 cash payment for the visa. (Please note, Uganda only accepts USD bills dated 2006 or newer and in excellent condition). A visa sticker will be printed with your photo and placed in your passport.

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for all travelers over 1 year of age arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission. See the World Health Organization International travel and health website for disease distribution maps listing countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.

Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya Combo Visa

The East Africa Tourist Visa allows travel between these three countries using the same mutiple entry visa. This multi-country 90-day visa is available to tourists with a valid passport (valid for not less than 6 months from the time of visa application). You will need to submit a travel itinerary and proof of return ticket. You should apply for the visa from the first country you plan to visit. The East Africa Tourist Visa costs $100.

You need to apply for it to the country of the first Entry point either in your Country of residence or at the Immigration. For example, if you travel first to Kenya and then Rwanda. You will apply for the visa at the Kenya Embassy or online at the Kenya Immigration.

Entry Requirements

  • Your passport must be valid 6 months beyond intended stay.
  • You must have tickets and documents for return or onward travel.
  • We recommend at least 2 blank pages in your passport per country visited.
