Itinerary

Day 1 : Drive to Lake Manyara or Tarangire for an afternoon game drive

Visiting: Lake Manyara or Tarangire

Drive 3-4 hours from Moshi to Lake Manyara (best November/December to May) or Tarangire (best June to October/November), with picnic lunch en-route for an afternoon game drive.

Lake Manyara is tucked beneath the massive walls of the remarkable Rift Valley. In this wildlife oasis, we find a thin green band of forest flanked by the 600-meter sheer red and brown cliffs, along with the large soda lake which gives name to the park. Famous for its forest elephants and tree-climbing lions, many other animals like hippos, bushbucks, leopards, blue monkeys and more have made this scenic park their home. Manyara is also perhaps Tanzania’s most famous bird watching spot, as it hosts nearly400 species of birds, including cranes, storks, pelicans, fish eagles, and thousands of flamingos.

Tarangire is well-known for its huge herds of elephant and massive baobab trees. Throughout the dry season, thirsty antelope and elephant trek hundreds of kilometers to drink along the Tarangire River. Besides elephants, Tarangire is renowned for its healthy lion prides, while also being a home for unique and rare predators like cheetah and wild dog. Kudu, waterbuck, giraffe, and more are common sights while with some luck, you might see the gorgeous and elusive fringe-eared oryx.
