Day 1: Arrive San José, Costa Rica

Arrive in Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica anytime today. Following customs and immigration formalities, will be met and escorted to your hotel by the local arrivals manager. Overnight in San José. No meals included today

Day 2: San José – Tortuguero

AWR - Tortuguero2Breakfast at the hotel if time allows, or request a boxed breakfast to go. Early this morning, transfer to Tortuguero, through a combination of land and boat. En route we’ll enjoy a typical breakfast before arrive to Caño Blanco or la Pavona Dock (the dock depends of the river level).

Once at the lodge we’ll have a delicious lunch. You’ll have some time to refresh or explore the lush lodge grounds and then later this afternoon visit to downtown Tortuguero village and the Caribbean Conservation Corporation’s visitor center and turtle museum with the local guide. Dinner at night at the lodge. Overnight at Tortuguero (BLD)

Day 3: Tortuguero — The Amazon of Central America!

AWR - TortugueroBreakfast at the hotel included. This morning enjoy a beautiful guided tour to see all nature of the Tortuguero Canals. Lunch at the lodge. This afternoon is free to enjoy other activities at the lodge or book a second canal boat trip (at own cost) for more wildlife viewing away from the lodge. Dinner will be served at the Hotel Restaurant. Overnight at Tortuguero (BLD)

Day 4: Tortuguero – Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica’s most scenic spot!

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning Boat transfer to Caño Blanco or Pavona Dock. Have a lunch at El Ceibo Restaurant and then contnue the transfer by road to Arenal. Arrive by mid afternoon and enjoy some leisure time to enjoy the views from the pool and bar. At 5,437 feet, the Arenal Volcano looms large  over the pastured green hillsides that surround its base. Although currently in a resting phase, Arenal was by far the country’s most active volcano for the past 43 years. Its storied history is charged with eruptions – both major and minor – that have intimately affected the region and the people who live here. Overnight at Arenal (BL)

Day 5: Arenal – Costa Rica’s best ziplne!

Enjoy stunning views of the greater Arenal área from the top, reached by the unique sky tram. From there, delight in 7 separate ziplines descending the Mountain, with the longest zip about 2500 feet! After the tour and return to the hotel, enjoy a free afternoon to enjoy the hotel facilities or enjoy an optional tour in the área such as canyoning or the hanging bridges. Overnight at Arenal (B)

Day 6: Arenal – Manuel Antonio

Set high above the enchanting national park, Manuel Antonio boasts world-class views and beaches. Accommodation choices are plentiful, with some of the country’s most inspired lodging options to choose from. Just imagine sparkling white sandy beaches, shimmering blue water and the fresh ocean breeze, all from the rocking chair on your patio. Day 7: Manuel Antonio – Costa Rica’s best wildlife walk!

AWR - ManuelAntonio1Breakfast at the hotel. Early this morning, enjoy a naturalist-led wildlife walking tour of Manuel Antonio National Park. This national park is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Central Ameria. It is a combination of a paradisiacal beach of crystalline waters with coral reefs, bordered by exuberant vegetation and the natural captivation’s of the tropical rain forest.

It’s beaches are considered among the best of the country, where the snorkeling and the surf are very popular. On the way to Manuel Antonio along the coastal line, you will enjoy nice views and will be crossing plantations of African palm and picturesque villages along the Pacific coast, until you reach the port of Quepos and few minutes after the National Park.

On our arrival at the park entrance, we’ll hike into the park, crossing a creek to access the park, since this park is closed to vehicles.

Once at the park, it is possible to simply enjoy the beach, take a sun bath, or a nature walk though the park’s trails, which will allow you to observe the abundant flora and fauna of the park, especially several species of monkeys, iguanas, birds, and maybe, the three toe sloth.

One of the trails heads to Cathedral Point from where the sight of the park and the sea is spectacular.

Overnight at Manuel Antonio (B)

Day 8: Manuel Antonio – International Airport

Breakfast at hotel. This morning, transfer to Juan Santamaría International Airport. There, you will take your flight home. Plan to depart no earlier than 2 pm, otherwise we recommend an overnight San Jose, and a departure the next day (B)
