Week 4

 << Week 3 | Overview | Week 5 >>
  • Goal for this week: Prepare for triathlon

DAY 1 — Swimming

A friend of my talked me into a “mini” triathlon in 7 weeks.  Yikes!  Swimming is my weakest sport (more like drowning), so I thought I should start right away.

  • Activity: Swimming
  • Time: 30 minutes
  • Distance: 14 x 25m laps
  • Notes: I usually start slow, but improve rather quickly.

DAY 3 — Bike the Poor Man Loop

Continuing my “triathlon,” I thought I would do my favorite bike loop in town, which goes over Poor Man Rd.  I dusted off my road bike, pumped up the tires, and off I went.  About 1/2 mile from the summit, my front tire blew.  It was only then that I realized I did not have a repair kit of any kind on my bike 🙁  Then I discovered that there is no cell coverage in the mountains!  I started the long walk down in my uncomfortable bike shoes until a woman took pity on my and gave me ride home.  Talk about humiliating!

  • Activity: Road biking
  • Time: 1 hour
  • Distance: 5 miles
  • Notes: Take a patch kit next time!

DAY 5 — Hike/Run Mt. Sanitas

Instead of doing my usual up-and-down on Mt. Sanitas, I ran from my house, went up one side, down the other, and then back to my house.  I have done this before, but it was a brutal hot day today….

  • Activity: Hiking/running
  • Time: 2 hours
  • Distance: 5 miles
  • Notes: Big workout for me

DAY 7 — Run BVR (long loop)

With an hour break from family and household obligations, I headed out to the Boulder Valley Ranch to do my “long loop”.  I ran into “travel gal” Kathy Dragon out with her dog!

  • Activity: Running
  • Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Distance: 5.6 miles
  • Notes: Popular trail today
