from $1290 USD Request trip informationThis trek in the mountains above the Sacred Valley provides beautiful mountain views and insights into the traditional way of life for the local Inca-ancestral people. Three days of trekking in the Sacred Valley are capped by the 2-day Inca Trail Express.
On the slopes of Antapampa, north of Cusco lies the intriguing terracing complexes of Zurite, located near the village of Huarocondo. From here the trail winds slowly onto the high plateau with fantastic views of Mt. Salkantay and Veronica, to Ancascocha and down the Silgue Valley, ending at Camicancha. The fourth day includes taking the train to km 104 and hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, arriving through the sun gate. Shuttle to Aguas Calientes and overnight in a hotel. The fifth day includes shuttle, entrance and a guided tour of Machu Picchu. You will return to Cusco on the train at the end of the day.

Full Itinerary
Day 1: Private car to trailhead, hike to Chilipahua, camp overnight
Note: The evening before the trek, you will have a briefing with your guide.
Leaving Cusco by private car, we go through Huarocondo and head down the narrow Pachar valley towards the Urubamba river valley. At 3,100 m we will arrive at a footbridge of Parpishu, starting point of our trek. From here the trail starts ascending slowly, leaving the valley behind us. The trail continues to the pass of Watuq'asa (3,900 m.) where we have lunch and then continue on. We will see an Inca wall and Tambo known as Qosqoq'awarina (the place where we can see Cusco) that surrounds the pass. Magnificent views of Mountain Pumahuanca, Chicon and Veronica. From here, the trail descends to the left ending at a small valley with a stream running through it called Anapahua, we continue over to Chilipahua - a small community where we camp. Day 2: Hike to Ancascocha, camp overnight
We leave our campsite and head northwest, slowly ascending past some small houses at Incaraqay - a community of sheep herders on the high puna. From here a one hour hike will bring us over another Pass at Pampaq'asa (4,200 m.) down into the gulley of the Silque River to then reach a little village called Ancascocha (3,900 m.). Here we are in full view of Mt. Huayanay and the Silque Valley. We camp near a lake. (Approximately 13 km hiking).

Day 3: Hike to Camicancha, camp overnight
After breakfast start trekking downhill on a narrow valley full of lustrous Huakanki, the famous large and red Masdevalia orchid. The trail descends in zigzags, beside a small but torrent stream. After crossing many little bridges, we`ll reach the community of Camicancha, where we will camp in a nice volcanic rock area, with a view of Mt. Veronica snow capped mountain. (Approximately 7 km hiking).

Day 4: Train to km 104, hike to Machu Picchu, overnight Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, we transfer by private car to Ollantaytambo and to the train station for the Expedition train to km 104. Your guided hike will take you to Winay Wayna (lunch stop) and on to Inti Punku (sun gate), where you will see Machu Picchu for the first time. A short walk to the ruins and take the shuttle to Aguas Calientes. Overnight at a hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 5: Guided tour of Machu Picchu, climb Huayna Picchu (optional), return to Cusco
The day is spent at Machu Picchu: Early shuttle, entrance and guided tour of the ruins. You may climb Huayna Picchu at 10 a.m. (ticket to climb is not included in the price, and must be ordered at least 60 days in advance). You will return to Aguas Calientes for the late afternoon Expedition train returning to Cusco. Transfer to your hotel.
