Full Itinerary
Day 1: Hike in the mountains surrounding the Sacred Valley
Leaving Ollantaytambo (or your hotel in the Sacred Valley) we follow the road up the Patacancha Valley until reaching the bridge at Pallata. The road continues up the hill, narrowing curves finally bring us to the archaeological site at Pumamarca. Located on a promontory, the site guards the access to the Patacancha Valley from the rainforest beyond, but most importantly, it sits at the top of the valley next to an Inca Canal that distributed water from the Choquechaca side valley, distributing via an impressive Inca Canal System, all the way to the fortress at Ollantaytambo. Partially restored it is in full use and the huge expanse of Inca Terracing on the slopes of the valley is still in use today. Our hike will traverse this beautiful landscape of continuous terracing until we descend back to the valley floor and return on foot to the village of Ollantaytambo. During the course of the day we will have lunch overlooking the valley. In the late afternoon time to roam through in the village with its ancient inca houses or canchas, where we can still witness the traditional way of life. Transportation (car and driver), bilingual guide and lunch included. (Full day: 4-5 hours hiking).
