Southern Tanzania is the perfect destination for travelers looking for plentiful and rare wildlife in a remote area of Africa. The national parks have fewer visitors and give the feeling of being all alone. Activities include game drives in open vehicles, boat safaris, and walking safaris. These safaris include flights between the parks.
The most popular national parks are Selous and Ruaha. Selous is close to Dar es Salaam and can be done in 3-4 days. Katavi is arguably the most amazing, but it is also the most remote. The Mufindi Highlands offers a wonderful cultural experience and very popular with families.
You can start from Dar es Salaam or add on from the Serengeti. Extensions to Zanzibar and chimpanzee trekking in Mahale are also available.
