Bhutan Visa

Getting a Visa

All visitors must have a visa for Bhutan.

NOTE: The information below is for informational purposes only. All travelers should check their local consulate to see if entry requirements and fees have changed.

  • Your passport must be valid 6 months beyond intended stay.
  • You need at least 2 blank pages in your passport per country visited.
  • You must have flight tickets and documents for return or onward travel.

*** You will need to email AWR a scan of your passport photo page. ***

AWR will arrange for the visa in Bhutan. You will need to email AWR a scan of your passport photo page, and a passport-size photo. The visa will be delivered to your hotel the day before flying to Bhutan, and we will email you a copy of Bhutan visa as soon as possible.  You need to carry the visa copy when flying to Paro. You should also carry a printed copy of the e-tickets along with your passports.

Get your visa upon arrival at the Kathmandu Airport. People need to bring 1 passport-sized photo. Fill out the application at the airport and have $50/person in cash for a 30-day multi-entry visa.

AWR will arrange for the Chinese visa and Tibet Travel Permit.  You will need to email AWR a scan of your passport photo page, and a passport-size photo.  You will also need to fill out the Chinese visa application (we will provide).

If traveling to Tibet from Kathmandu, you need to plan on at least 3 full business days in Kathmandu before flying to Lhasa. To be on the safe side, we recommend travelers book at least 4 nights in Kathmandu in case of flight delays or other problems.

  • US Nationality: US$ 200 per person
  • Canadian Nationality: US$ 175 per person
  • Brazilian Nationality: US$ 200 per person
  • Other Nationality: US$ 115 per person
  • Payable with cash in Kathmandu

If traveling to Tibet from China (through Chengdu), travelers need to arrange their Chinese visa ahead of time on their own (and do not mention traveling to Tibet), and email us a copy. We will arrange the Tibet Travel Permit, which is included in the trip price. The process takes a minimum of 21 working days to arrange the visa.

You will need to arrange your India visa ahead of time at least 1 week prior to travel. You can no longer get the visa at the airport! If you are entering India more than once (for example, before and after Bhutan), you will need to get a multiple entry visa.
