3-Day Amazon Rainforest
Located about a 25 minute motor-canoe ride down the River Madre de Dios from Puerto Maldonado, the Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion Lodge is in a enchanting and serene lush setting of natural rainforest.
This rainforest property includes a main lodge with 8 rooms and 19 individual cabanas, all with private bathrooms and covered porches. There is a spacious dining area with warm colored furnishings.
Sensitively positioned within walking distance of beautiful and solitary lake Sandoval, this unique jungle lodge offers a wide range of fixed land and river excursions in its surroundings, opportunities to spot hoatzins or shanshos and other wild animals. The varied menu of day-trips will introduce guests to the magic of the rainforest which has yet to be discovered. Please note that all rainforest itineraries may vary slightly so as to maximize wildlife sightings, depending on the reports of local researchers and experienced naturalist guides.
You can add an extra day or two for additional excursions and jungle activities; to enjoy a 4- or 5-day experience, just let us know if you are interested. For a luxury option, we offer the Reserva Amazonica! The itinerary is similar, but you have a menu of excursions, from which to choose.

This itinerary starts and ends in Puerto Maldonado. To arrive in Puerto Maldonado, guests must fly in from Cusco or Lima, or take an overnight bus from Cusco.
Full Itinerary
Day 1: 3-DAY AMAZON EXCURSION / Arrive Puerto Maldonado; check in; transfer to lodge; begin jungle excursions; overnight lodge (LD)
Start your journey arriving to Puerto Maldonado and checking-in at the Inkaterra Lounge (Butterfly House), where our staff will welcome you and give you the necessary information for your stay.
**** PLEASE NOTE: Excursions include a mix of boat trips, trekking, canopy walkways, animal and bird sighting, and more. This itinerary starts and ends in Puerto Maldonado. To arrive in Puerto Maldonado, guests must fly in from Cusco or Lima. You will be met at the Puerto Maldonado airport upon arrival (look for a sign with your last name or "INKATERRA"), and transferred to the lodge, after check in at the Inkaterra office.
Navigate by outboard motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River to your lodge (approximately 25-minute navigation). Enjoy a buffet lunch with organic ingredients and native flavors. After lunch, take a walk through the local nature trails, where you will discover and learn about primary and secondary rainforest, its components, uses, transformations by the human being, and its relevance for the world.
At dusk navigate by outboard motorized canoe, at the Twilight River excursion. Sailing on the Madre de Dios River, you will learn about its ecosystem, Amazonian creeks, nocturnal animals' behavior, and the southern constellations. In the evening enjoy a nice dinner at the dining room. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Full day of Amazon rainforest activities; overnight lodge (BLD)
New experiences are ahead and after taking a nutritious buffet breakfast, get ready for a long trek through terra firma into the Tambopata National Reserve towards Lake Sandoval. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is called the biodiversity capital of Peru, while learning about the Reserve's conservation efforts and the lake's formation. Navigate by dugout canoe across this mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), and one of the world's biggest fresh water scaled fish, the paiche (Arapaima gigas).
Back to the lodge for lunch, and later the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway and Anaconda Walk await for you. Take a 20-minute ride by outboard motorized canoe to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center where you will learn about its construction and the conservation projects of ITA-Inkaterra Asociación (NGO). Ascend one of the two 98-foot towers (30 m.) and cross the 7 hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 91 ft. high (28 m.). Enjoy the breathtaking vistas and get the chance to watch white-throated toucans (Ramphastos tucanus), woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and the three-toed sloth (Choleopus hoffmani). After descending keep on feeling the incredible primary rainforest energy going along the 200-meter wooden bridge over the swamps (aguajales). You will learn about the fauna and flora of this flooded ecosystem.
At night get ready for an adventure at the Rainforest by Night excursion, where you will explore the Amazon rainforest that gives way to nocturnal animals who display intriguing behavior patterns, and enhanced senses as adaptation mechanisms. Listen to nocturnal living nature sounds, and penetrate this hidden world. Return to the lodge and enjoy a nice dinner.

Day 3: Conclude Amazon jungle activities; transfer to Puerto Maldonado; check out; transfer to airport; depart (B)
After breakfast buffet, take a ride back to Puerto Maldonado by outboard motorized canoe. Arrive at the Inkaterra Lounge (Butterfly House) where you may wait for your flight back home or to your next destination, while visiting this beautiful Butterfly House, and learning about the fascinating transformation of these colorful insects, bred in our laboratory.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco or Lima.
