3-Day Iquitos Amazon Lodge Excursionfrom $395 USD Request trip information
For travelers who prefer the northern Amazon basin out of Iquitos, we have partnered with the Muyuna Lodge, for an authentic deep jungle experience. Muyuna is located on the Yanayacu river banks at 140 kms. (84 miles) southeast from Iquitos city, very close to the Pacaya- Samiria National Reserve and inside the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Reserve.
The 3-day excursion is a wonderful introduction to this diverse ecosytem. If you want to observe the pink dolphins, see the huge Victoria Regis aquatic plant, and fish for piranha, this is the place to go!
You will want to arrive the night before (we can arrange accommodations in Iquitos) or early in the morning, as the boat leaves for the lodge around 9 a.m. You will return late afternoon on the third day, making this a full 3-day excursion.
For more jungle excursions at this lodge, ask us about the 4- and 5-day itineraries!

Day 1: 3-DAY IQUITOS AMAZON LODGE EXCURSION / Transfer by motorized boat to the lodge; begin jungle excursions; overnight lodge (LD)
You will be met at the airport, or picked up from your Iquitos hotel and transfer to Iquitos for check in, shopping and last-minute coordination. After a ride to the dock, we will transfer in a fast boat for 3 hours, 140 kms. upriver from Iquitos on the Amazon River.
Upon arrival at the lodge, you will be assigned your bungalow and have an orientation. A list of animals that have been previously seen in the area will be distributed. After lunch our group takes a boat trip to Lake Sapote, watching different birds, like parrots, jacanas, kingfishers, herons, panguanas, partridges, pigeons, cormorants, horned screamers, horneros.
We then move to the other end of the Moena lagoon to see sloths and monkeys, as the night monkeys, squirrel and dusky titi monkeys, etc. After watching a sunset over the forest of mirrors, we go back to Muyuna for dinner. In the evening, boat ride to see caimans, nocturnal birds and mammals. Overnight at the lodge.

Mid-Range Accommodations: Muyuna Lodge
Day 2: Continue jungle excursions; overnight lodge (BLD)
We have breakfast very early, and take off for the Leoncito Hike, where we appreciate the immense variety of flora around the Muyuna area. On this walk you can taste the water that Uncaria tomentosa (cat's claw) has within its vines - some say it can cure cancer and AIDS. You'll also be amazed at how huge the ceiba tree is. In addition, you will see the world's smallest monkey, the pigmy marmoset, and the squirrel and tamarin monkeys. If you're lucky, you'll see the howler monkey, whose deafening roar can be heard many miles away.
We have lunch and continue with boat trips to the lakes Purura and Corriente and catch different kind of fish, including the famous piranha (being more difficult to fish in March, April and May). This is an area that has many strangler vines, being the favorite spot of the bird "hoatzin" or shansho. This colorful bird looks like a prehistoric bird because it has three claws on the middle joint of the wing. After dinner, at night, we take a night walk in search of huge frogs, anaconda's favorite food. In addition, we will see tarantulas; it is worth clarifying that despite the bad reputation, they are not dangerous to humans. Overnight at the lodge.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Mid-Range Accommodations: Muyuna Lodge
Day 3: Continue jungle excursions; return to Iquitos late afternoon; transfer to the airport or your hotel (BL)
We have breakfast on a small boat that will take us to the Amazon River, where we will experience the most magical moment of our trip, which is to swim in the same river where the pink and gray dolphins live. You can see them, but, don't expect to touch them. On the way back to the lodge, you will see the biggest aquatic plant in the world, the famous Victoria Regia. It is also easy to see iguanas.
We have lunch and with our guide, we will be able to count all the animals seen in our Animal Check List. Our experience of the jungle comes to an end and we take the boat three hours back to Iquitos and to the hotel or airport.
