7-Day Peninsula Valdes Sea Kayaking
Peninsula Valdés is located in Chubut province on the Patagonian coast. The Valdés landscape unfolds itself towards the Southern Atlantic Ocean forming almost an island.
Declared as a World Natural Heritage by UNESCO, it is home to an extensive variety of wildlife. Its biggest attraction is the Southern Right Whale that migrates here yearly for breeding and calving.
This trip is a wilderness adventure for recreational sea kayakers: The itinerary features days on pristine waters and nights under the Southern Cross. As we paddle, huge mammals rise out in the Gulf of San Jose and playful seals bark and slide into the water. Whether focusing the day on bird watching, visiting archeological sites along the coast, enjoying spectacular sunsets or listening to the sounds of the Southern Right Whale, kayaking at Peninsula Valdés is all about fun and adventure.

Full Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and whale watching

Day 2: Sea Kayaking (BLD)
In the morning we will drive to San Jose Gulf and departure site of our kayak expedition. With our guides instructions we will fit in our kayaks for the coming trip. He will give us a precise briefing of security, technique guide lines as well as environmental regulations. We take our time for practice and filling comfortable with our kayaks, before we start. We begin paddling towards Punta Conos, on our way we pass through a Southern Sea Lion colony, where the sea lions have no problem in diving into the water to come and greet us. In Punta Conos area is where we set up our first camp. During the afternoon we walk different sections observing marine fossils which are characteristic of the Valdes Peninsula.

Day 3: Sea Kayaking and hiking (BLD)
After a good breakfast we break camp. This day we paddle approximately one hour to a Whale Camp, a small beach where we will have lunch and camp. It is possible that we will camp here for two nights so we can go for a few hikes to different points of interest. This place is where researchers camp to study the Southern Right Whales, a program that has been carried out for over 30 years.

Day 5: Sea kayaking (BLD)
At midday after having passed by a section of cliffs, we will reach Fracasso Bay, where at low tide, a huge section of the beach remains exposed (a slough). This is an area where many shore birds feed in sand flats which are exposed during low tide. After lunch we paddle following a section of cliffs and small bays until we reach enchanted bay were we set up camp. This area is one of the best to see whales close to the shore. Late in the afternoon before dinner we'll enjoy an authentic Argentinian picada under the majestic southern hemisphere sky and whales sounds.

Day 6: Sea kayaking (BL)
After breakfast and breaking camp, we get on our kayaks to continue paddling to Villarino beach. This place is well known as an important site in Peninsula Valdes history. The first Spanish expeditions landed here and it is our final destination for the kayak trip. Once the kayak expedition is completed we will return to Piramides village and overnight at Del Nomade Ecolodge. Relax during the afternoon and enjoy the town of Puerto Piramides.

Day 7: Land tour and departure (BL)
After breakfast we take a land tour to the external coast of the Peninsula reaching the Atlantic Ocean where we will be able to appreciate the diversity of wildlife and the impressive landscape. After a typical Patagonian lunch, you will visit Punta Norte reserve, the most famous animal observation point of Peninsula. Here you will observe a sea lion colony, also the graceful guanacos (a South American camelid), a big rodent locally named "mara", the fast rheas and some elephant seals. With much luck orcas may show up. Transfer to the Trelew airport in the afternoon.
