For the second year running, Adventures Within Reach is registering for the annual Denver Gorilla Run on October 30, 2010 to raise money for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. AWR will pay half the entrance fee for anyone who joins our 2010 gorilla team!
Last year, our team helped beat the Guinness Book of World Records™ “number of people dressed up in gorilla costumes.” There were a total of 1061 “gorillas,” which is more than the number of gorillas still remaining in the wild.
We completed the 5.6k race last year through downtown Denver running, walking, and riding bikes donned in safari hats and vests over our gorilla costumes.
As much fun as the Gorilla run is, it’s not all just monkeying around- it is also to raise funds and awareness for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. The fund, established in 1985, protects the 700 individuals left in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As we lead safaris every year into Uganda and Rwanda to observe these majestic creatures in their native habitat, we are always searching for ways of keeping this highly endangered species alive.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, conservation efforts have led to an increase in the Virunga population by 14% in the last 12 years, while the Bwindi population has increased by 12% over the past decade. So, we invite you to participate in the run with us by donating on-line or signing up to run with us (enter “AWR” as the Team Name). AWR will pay half the entrance fee for anyone who joins our 2010 gorilla team!
