Kayaking at Torguguero Costa Rica

Today you will enjoy a boat tour through the canals of Tortuguero National Park, giving you the opportunity to explore the canals winding through the rainforest, which is home to unique wildlife, from egrets to crocodiles to monkeys to butterflies.

Keep your eyes open for sea turtles! Tortuguero has many highlights, but it is named in honor of the four species of sea turtles that nest in the region. Tortuguero’s coastline is considered one of the world’s most important nesting sites of the green sea turtle, which can be found by the thousands in the summer months. The baby turtles hatch from July through early November, emerging from their nests to scrabble across the sand to the waiting waters of the Atlantic.

Also be sure to take advantage of the miles of beach and jungle trails in Tortuguero National Park.

  • Lodging: Mawamba Lodge
  • Meals: BLD

Day 4  / Dec 22: Tortuguero – Sarapiquí

Start the day off early with a boat ride back to the dock, then a 1.5 hour shared van transfer to Guapiles where you will have lunch at a restaurant on the way.

One option this afternoon is to enjoy a self-guided walk in the hotel’s private rainforest reserve. Nine kilometers of maintained trails meander through the reserve’s 750-acre mid-elevation tropical forest. On the walk, you will traverse rustic trails and cross suspension bridges to discover the rainforest at your own pace. You will receive a trail map which outlines all the trails and their distances along with important safety instructions regarding walking solo in the forest. Don’t forget to ask the front desk for the brief natural history booklet with information about a few of the trails and the forest itself. Open hours for self-guided walks are between 7 am and 5 pm.

New Myanmar Easy Online E-Visa

Myanmar2Last month, Myanmar introduced an exciting new and easy online e-visa system for travelers from 43 countries (with 24 more added in October). The fee is US$50 per visa and the process takes about 5 business days. The visa is valid for travel anytime within the first 3 months of issuance so it’s important to carefully time your application. The Myanmar e-visa allows you to stay for up to 28 days though the most popular itineraries tend to be around 8 to 12 days.

Nationalities that are presently eligible for the e-visa include:

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea (DPR), Korea (Republic), Kuwait, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States.

See full Myanmar e-visa rules >>

Interest in Myanmar continues to grow, with the main focus from our travelers on the months between November through February to escape the winter, however Myanmar is truly a year-round destination. Feedback from travelers visiting between April to September is even better than November, for example – we think it may be because November-February often attracts more casual tourists so experienced travelers can enjoy even more blissful solitude at the sites the rest of the year.

MyanmarItineraries

All of our Myanmar tours are private and customized. Online we have 2 itineraries to use as templates for your own tailor-made itinerary or you can book either of them “as is.”

Note that, in addition to arranging your Myanmar tour, we can also assist with flights and travel insurance. The variety of nice hotels continues to improve as time goes on, with a nice selection of 3, 4, and luxury 5-star hotels to choose from.

For more information or to receive a recommended itinerary and quote for a Myanmar trip, please contact Dan Crandall at dan@adventureswithinreach.com or call (303) 500-5047, extension 3.

Adventure in Wine Country Colorado

AWR Trip Report

Staff Members: Robin Paschall
Travel Dates: September 2014
Destinations Visited:  Palisade and Fruita, Colorado

We don’t always have to travel to the other side of the world — sometimes AWR staff finds adventure right near home.  This fall, we visited Palisade and Fruita — great for hikers, bikers, river rafters, and wine lovers alike!

DAY 1 — Lunch at local winery and live music downtown

Once we arrived in Palisade, we hopped on our bikes and had a beautiful ride through the vineyards to a winery that makes you feel like you have traveled to France: Maison la Belle Vie.  The evening’s entertainment was the Stray Grass Band at the Palisade Brewery.  The Brewery is a local’s favorite with a fun outside patio.

DAY 2 — Mountain biking in Fruita and wine tasting in Palisade

The second day started with a mountain bike ride in Horse Thief Canyon along the Kokopelli Trail.  Followed by a “peach pizza” at the Hot Tomato Restaurant in downtown Fruita!

The afternoon was spent visiting one of the many wonderful wineries in the area.  Wine tastings are free, there is a good variety of wine flavors, nice views, and interesting people!

DAY 3 — Colorado Mountain Wine Fest

For us, the Wine Fest started with the 25-mile Tour De Vineyards road bike ride through the wine country.  A great way to start the day!

Colorado Mountain Wine Fest is an all-day wine tasting event with live music, seminars, grape crushing, and much more!

We enjoyed our stay at the Wine Country Inn!
